Résumé :
This article examines how R. Solomon’s An Unkindness of Ghosts challenges racial hierarchy, gender norms, and the ideologies that sustain the social order aboard the Matilda. Through a society organized around racial segregation, rigid gender classifications, and theocracy, the novel reveals how dominant discourses sustain systems of exclusion and oppression. Drawing on J. Derrida’s theory of deconstruction and Afrofuturist perspectives, this study contends that An Unkindness of Ghosts turns the binaries on which this order depends against it. The novel does so through inclusive language, which unsettles gender categories and makes marginalized identities visible, and through Afrofuturism, which opens an alternative horizon beyond inherited hierarchies by centering Black intellectual agency.
