Résumé :

Is Poetry Translatable? A variety of views have been proposed in this regard some scholars consider poetry to a sacred entity, thus, believing that it is wholly lost in translation, while others dare to conquer its impregnable fortifications!. These theorists argue that poetry can be translated by those who have deep interest in poetry and who possess the poetic feel and sensation. However, Adam Abdullah Al-ilory was a literary icon who left behind a host of publications written in fluent Arabic language on various aspects of life. These publications have become a center of interest for some researchers despite the exhaustive research carried out on his body of work very little had been made to translate his poetry. Moreover, in today's world of globalization, communication between different nations with different languages is feasible through translation (Mahmoud .O 2015). This present article is a translation coupled with comment on some Al-ilory’s poetic work. The rationale behind the translation is that the Arabic language used by Al-ilory denies the non- Arabic users in and out of Nigeria the opportunity to share the lessons arising from the original work. This research strongly posits that poetry is translatable and seeks to fill the vacuum, thereby give non-Arabic users the opportunity to enjoy what this poetry offers in the original text.
