Résumé :

This paper revisits Ishmael Reed’s 1972 book, Mumbo Jumbo. The book is a real mix of genres, techniques from various fields and disciplines making it a piece running counter to exclusivist standards and norms that resisted the tests of time and creative courage up until Reed’s book came out. In actual fact, this study seeks to demonstrate that Reed’s masterpiece is an assault on the novel genre and by extension, the Western civilization. By his use of a variety of techniques, genres and worldviews, Reed both unwrites and moves Western civilization from its alleged position of preeminence.
